"Imagine, dream, believe, even PLAY PRETEND. If you do it enough, it might just become REALITY."
-Pablo Palacios
My name is Pablo Palacios and I am a Chicano-Latino Visual Artist from Los Angeles, CA. I am an alumnus from UCLA, where I earned my BA in Chicana and Chicano Studies with concentrations in Labor Law and Policy and Expressive Arts. I also hold a Master of Science Degree in Counseling-Student Development in Higher Education from Long Beach State University.
As a visual artist, I love experimenting with different media. I love playing with color and sometimes I tend to take a bit of a Wassily Kandinsky approach. For example, challenging the idea that a drawing or a painting of a tree doesn’t necessarily have to be green, why not paint it blue or purple instead? Some of the artwork I don’t plan, they just happen. I find myself drawing a lot of portraiture. In the process, I feel like I’m getting to know the person I’m drawing on a deeper level, every curve, every shadow, every highlight, every detail that makes them who they are is what stays with me when I complete these works.
Aside from striving to improve in my artwork, my main goal with my artwork is to celebrate the people that are important to me and others in my community as well. My community is made up of people that look like me, that speak the same languages as me, workers, laborers, educators, healthcare professionals, counselors, aspiring professionals, religious affiliations, etc., and I try to bring that out in my artwork in hopes that it can speak to someone and inspire them, just as the references/subjects in my works do for me.
Be weird and stay creative. Shout out to all the art freaks in the world!
